The Fire sells for $199.
\n
\nThe first firm, UBM TechInsights estimated the input cost at $143. However, IHS ISuppli came up with an estimated cost of $203. Their cost includes manufacturing services as well as components. In addition to differing on services costs, the two firms also differ significantly on the possible cost of the display and touch screen assembly.
\n
\nAccording to the article, in a conference call with analysts Amazon's CFO stressed that the device would serve as a platform for the delivery of content.
\n
\nWhile no one is sure whether Amazon is losing money on the device or making a small profit on it, it is clear that they have attempted to take on Apple by providing a low-cost alternative to the iPad, with the intention of penetrating the market. The real profit may come in the sales of content for the Fire.
