\nThe horizontal merger between AT&T and T-Mobile will increase the market concentration and reduce the market competition. Due to the economics of scale and the less competition, the merger between AT&T and T-Mobile can actually make the two companies better off and bring them much more profits than before. However, the merger would make consumers worse off, because less competition means higher price, lower quality, and less innovation.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"47757658","dateCreated":"1323281148","smartDate":"Dec 7, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"aeroederer","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/aeroederer","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1318295145\/aeroederer-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/mbaeconfall2011.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/47757658"},"dateDigested":1532762598,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Review","description":"Great paper-- it was very in depth about all of the processes, equations and the real world scenario is that it is happening right now. One of the Time Warner cases that was covered by another student, also touched on this merger and what does and does not work. \n
\nWorldCom stated that "Opposition to this merger just adds to the list of...policies that ultimately will reduce innovation and choice and raise the cost of communications services for residential customers."
\n
\nEven the case study for this stated that, if the merger actually happened, that AT&T and WorldCom\/Sprint would have controlled about 80% of the market. Their next largest competitor would only have a market share of no more than 3%, so that seems rather monopolistic.
